You've seen this on bigger forums, right?

A member posts a topics and other reply saying they can go search for the topic on the forum or Google to get their answer.

How do you feel about that practice? Do you think it's negative for your forum or justified?

I'd be pretty upset if I saw staff doing it, but I'd also be upset if I saw members doing it on my forum.

I might, in a friendly manner, tell them to use the forum search as the topic may already exist, but I wouldn't be a jerk about it.

It’s not a definition, it’s a username of a member notoorious for this, yet is knowledgeable lol. I don’t wanna turn this into a clone of Bash.ZONE so sorry will stop now 🤭
Probably best.

This place is definitely NOT intended for that.

You should go Google your answer 😆

On a serious note, Im very mixed. I've seen many instances when the same question has been asked over and over again, and the answer has been stated and confirmed. In this case, searching for the answer is a correct and valuable pathway to self-answer your question.

My personal takeaway is that regardless of what the users do, the software platform itself can and should make it easier to find your answer. Xenforos Elastic Search does an amazing job of that, where you're given related threads when you start a new thread.

You know, I think what makes a person a leader in authority and expertise?

Being able to answer the same question over and over again without any issues with it.

It's annoying. It can be difficult to do. But if you can do it, I think that will significantly build your credibility.

Argh, it’s really annoying when you search for a thread on the iPhone and all those suggestions appear
