Have you ever had any members warn you about members apart of your staff being bad for your forum? What did you do?

I just removed a moderator one my forum for having a history with on of my partners as a moderator, and he or one of their old moderators scammed him out of the money during a promotion.

I once had another member show me that a moderator was a registered sex offender on a forum I ran about 10 years ago.

I asked the moderator if it was true.

He said it was.

I "fired" him from staff and then banned him. Some people say I did that wrong, but I feel like I made the right choice. There were kids on the forum.

Of all the people to discriminate against, those who harm kids are IMO the ones to discriminate against.

I had somebody I partnered with/promoted their site, and I was told he was a registered sex offender. I ran away from that site, he blasted me all over social media, calling me a scammer afterwards, and a bunch of names. I ignored it, and continued to prove any doubters wrong.

The only problem I have with that is... we have some friends whose son was a senior in high school and he was dating a freshman. Her parents found out they were sexually active and pressed charges. He ended up with a conviction for having sex with his underage girlfriend and had to register as a sex offender.
That was before the law changed that for a certain age difference it was not punishable with a lower limit of something like 15 or 16 and no more than 3-4 years difference in age.
So, for something like this I would want to know the details.

It's a case where he was in his 20s and the girl was 16 and the parents caused the trouble.

However... He was still tried, convicted, and registered as an offender.

No matter what you or I think, he in the eyes of the law, is a convicted felon and registered sex offender.

What can you really do at that point? I mean allowing them to stay can and probably would backfire and harm your online reputation. People, especially nowadays, would tear you apart regardless of the situation.

No one reads into anything. You're an ex-LE, I'm an investigator. We're trained to read into things, but the average John and Jane Doe aren't reading into anything, they're judging books by their cover, making assumptions, and getting onto their soap box to tell the world and then everyone just follows them because that's what people tends to do.

So, my action really might have been the only response to make in order to keep the hounds away.

No mass population is going to take up for the offender, no matter the nature of the offense.

The problem I have, is that there are exceptions to every rule. It's perfectly fine for a 22 year old to marry/have sex with a 50 year old.
Now, if there is 6-10 years age difference, yes it is an issue. If it is 2-3 and the girl is 15'ish, then I have issues with that, and that comes from someone that is a parent to a girl and ex LEO.

No mass population is going to take up for the offender, no matter the nature of the offense.
And that is a societal issue. So many paint with a broad brush. It's funny when every now and then though one of them get painted with that very brush.

My daughter was 17 and her bf was 18. We didn't have any issues with that.

My wife is 7 years older than me.

But whether or not I did the right thing to term/ban the person, I did so mainly because I already had established rules against it for staff members on that forum. It was for an organization that supports the federal government (storm spotting).

Seventeen is usually considered a consenting adult. In fact, in Texas for criminal aspects, they are considered an adult.
Now, what if he had been 18 and her 16, or 15?

He was in his 20s. She was 16. He said they both consented, but the parents made a fuss.

The parents do have that right, legally.

Also, I don't know if he was telling the truth or not.

So, all I can do is assume, either way at that.

And that's why they changed the law here in Texas. It is referred to as the Romeo & Juliet law and was signed into effect in 2011. Saved quite a few kids.

Anything that have to do with scamming or being party to it shouldn't be allowed to stand in any forum. You did the right thing in firing the mod. Also, your forum is about poker which when your staff is being connected to scam, it doesn't paint a good picture about your community.

And how about vulnerable adults too? A sex offender shouldn’t have a place in any community imo.

Amen to that! They should never be allow to stay because once a sex offender is always a sex offender. The person will strike again when an opportunity comes for him.

I think you may have missed a point that I had made that there are still several out there that have to fly that flag. And all they had done was have sex with their high school girlfriend that was 1-2 years younger than them. It was so unjust even our uber-Christian Texas legislature created the Romeo & Juliet law to prevent any further miscarriages of justice.

I do get what you're saying.

But I know that the law won't get it, nor with the media. Unless you want to be that guy who tried to change that stipulation and fight that fight, you'd be better off cutting ties and wishing that person the best of luck.

Do you understand what I'm getting at there?

Oh, I get it. I also get the unfairness of it. Welcome to the judgmental world that many live in. Must be really nice when things are so black and white for them. ;)

Yeah. I mean "insert any topics" into it and it's the same.

We are a people who judges others and cannot stand those who are different.
