Are personal blogs still in?

Do any of you maintain a personal blog where you write about whatever you want and not a specific niche? Are you receiving a large number of readers and comments?

Or do you think personal blogs are a thing of the past and just an activity-less online diary that no one is reading except for you, your parents, and a few friends?

I think a personal blog was my very first blog. Likely only had a few posts on it.

My blog does have a personal element to it, as it involves my interactions and experiences. That's also the extent to what I've seen of personal blogs from others. Not sure of the last time I read a blog that was about a person and their activities.

However, there other mediums out there for people to share their thoughts, like through vlogs, Instagram, podcasts, etc., which is why I think it is not as common.

I think personal blogs still have their charm, especially if you write with passion and regularity. Even without a lot of traffic, it remains a great space for expression and sometimes good surprises come with time.

I think you're right. :)

I don't think personal blogs make a lot of money these days but if you want one to keep updated, I'm sure you can develop some sort of follower and fan base, even from those who actually know you.

I've struggled with keeping a personal blog. I should do it just to do it, but I tend to go niche too often.

Honestly, most personal blogs I've seen are not being maintained and updated regularly by the owner. It's probably because I feel that it gets tiring for them when it seems like not many people are taking interest in following those blogs.

I'm not keeping any at the moment but maybe in the future, I'll do something about it.

Better question is….has Social Media especially Facebook killed blogging? You can post same content and have it in the eyes of others quickly.

I don't think it has, personally.

With social media, you can have it in front of their eyes quickly but if they're not there, it gets pushed down even quicker.

I have a page on Facebook with 30,000 followers. Those 30,000 followers aren't all seeing my content each day because it all depends on when they login and what the algorithm is serving them at that time. I spend a lot of time creating daily content for that page and while I am getting great results, I know a lot of it doesn't get seen as much as other posts. That's just the way social media works.

Blogs however are there to be read upon visit and easy to find the last posts at that.

I don't think so. Blogging still has its place on the internet. You still see a lot of search engine blogs, personal blogs, travel blogs and food blogs doing well. Facebook hasn't fully replaced them yet.

A lot of these travel bloggers have been running their blogs for a long time now. I don't see them leaving the niche anytime soon. Facebook is used as a funnel for traffic for them though.
