I checked it and other extensions (mainly country domains) are also available for sale for the domain name.

I was curious and looked at the archive for the site. It's pretty much been used as a search engine/link directory for a majority of the time (domain has been active for nearly 30 years). A few years here and there it was used as a free forum host. The last several years it's been up for sale (at the same price).
 
I wonder how much ConvertKit.com paid for Kit.com. I bet it was well over a couple hundred thousand
