Yes, I go through burnouts too. I take 2-3 days to refresh..
My forum is not a hobby, it has a purpose, so my burnouts don't last and I get back on.
I rather a small forum, easy to manage and one gets better connections with the users.
It would have been better if I took the advice here when I went through a burnout.
Unfortunately I did take my forum as a hobby and couldn't handle it's growth. I immediately went to an exit plan like you mentioned where another staff member eventually took over.
