Forum or blog revenue failure

What's one revenue method you've tried on your forum or blog but it failed completely?

Why did it fail? Did you try something different to see if it would fail again?
 
Selling ad space!
Ever since I started running websites, first blogs and later forums, I have been trying to sell advertising space but in vain. I did manage to sell ad space a few times but that did not bring me good revenue. I have never sold ad space on forums.

I remember selling like $250 worth of ad space twice on the old AAF 1.0 forum.

Never happened again on a forum but it has a few times on a blog.
