    Connected Accounts

Not really. The only main "connected account" that gets used is the Google one.

    Cloud vs. VPS

The question is... what do you consider "cloud". Is that SaaS? Is that distributed VPS offerings? I think the better poll question would have been SaaS Self-Hosted since the cloud has expanded from what it used to be. Cloud is simply distributed computing and many shared hosting setups are...

    Forum Software Drama Killing Forums

That depends. If all you want is a forum to discuss stuff, but the users of websites want more and you want to gain traction the you really need to offer that more. So yes, it is subjective to the admin... and frequently that admin "want" is out of step with what the users want - the thing...

Do your forum members use mobile?

That depends on the niche of the site. For my primary site niche, mobile is rarely used. Mine is just the opposite of the numbers of you stated.

    Connected Accounts

Late to the party on this... Facebook has made it even more complicated to set them up now and you seem to have to have business info on file with them to use it. I know that the Xenforo developers have been pressed to update their manual to reflect the new requirements, but I don't think they...

    Black Friday 2025

Instead of moving to another server (since my current one is no where near maxed out and it's hard to beat a $15 dedicated server with true server hardware) I ended up getting an BeeLink Mate Studio and two 8TB Samsung 9100 Pro NVME's that allowed me to add 16TB RAID0 storage to the new Mac M4...

Is Your Forum Self-Hosted or Cloud Hosted?

A lot will depend upon the admins ability to do system administration for the best bang for the buck. I personally will always choose self-hosted options. I've used Linux since it first came out on a TON of 3.5" diskettes. I'm comfortable with administering it from the CLI and now since I use...

    Getting sick

Is that anything like taking Ivermectin horse paste from the local farm supply to treat COVID19? ;) Just joshing.. there are many "old home remedies" that work in todays age. When my throat is sore, I'll happily fall back to the hot water/bourbon/honey/lemon juice solution. it works due to...

    Black Friday 2025

OVH Black Friday sales are active. I'm thinking about grabbing a SYS-1 system (twice the cores, a little more storage and 1Gbps pipe). It's only $30 a month and no setup fee. I'm currently paying $15 for the KimSufi one I have. I'm having a hard time though justifying it, other than the...

    Custom thread prefixes

https://xenforohelp.com/topic/68/fa-icons-with-custom-prefixes It's not really that hard to do. The biggest thing is, especially when you get a list as large as mine, you have to make sure you open/close all the definitions. And yes, that site is well more than a "lets bash the Xenforo...

    CloudFlare having issues

Yeah, I think the issue will be what I had commented on here and other sites about the sudden influx of bots that are hiding themselves as browsers and actually coming in from end user ISP devices, and most coming from what are considered 3rd world countries. There has recently been a BIG...

    Black Friday 2025

That's why I try to pick the US servers. https://eco.us.ovhcloud.com/ But honestly... the US is getting just about as bad as other countries in what they try to enforce. As for "following their rules".... the point can be made that since my "company" is not based where the server is, then I...

    CloudFlare having issues

I think the main issue is if you use the proxy service. That was what was down. If you disable the proxy then it bypasses their infrastructure (other than DNS services) and goes directly to your site. I didn't really worry about it that much as I figured they'd have it back up before I woke up.

    CloudFlare having issues

For those on CloudFlare, they have a known issue that they are working on resolving. Many sites that use CloudFlare proxy service are experiencing issues.

    Black Friday 2025

Waiting to see what OVH has for their KimSufi and SoYouStart lines this year. I may, if the cost is close to what I'm paying, migrate my site over to a larger server.

    Should have used plugin?

Most sites don't. And if the XF mySQL search changes work it would probably suffice for most general discussion sites. Since I've been using ES for years I honestly have not kept up with the mySQL search changes that closely.

    Custom thread prefixes

Nope, just good old CSS/LESS and using FA icons. I try to minimize add-on usage as much as possible when it can be done in templating or CSS/LESS.

    Should have used plugin?

It is generally targeted for larger forums, but it did do a better search offering. With the alleged "improvements" that Xenforo was supposedly doing to the mySQL search, it may not be as important for smaller sites that used needed it like I did now. I needed better 2/3 letter word searches...

    Should have used plugin?

Xon's ElasticSearch Essentials add-on that extends the abilities of the Xenforo ES 1st party ElasticSearch add-on. The EleasticSearch Essentials add-on brings features that should have been included in the paid 1st party add-on offered by Xenforo. And that's probably why the developer named it...

    Custom thread prefixes

Most definitely make heavy use of the Xenforo prefix function. It is one of the better solutions to reduce the number of forum nodes that you might have. Just two examples. I also use them in several of the add-ons that I use. This is one from the classifieds add-on I use in one area.
