Harnessing the Power of Social Media for Forum Growth

Its an interesting set of circumstances. We vilify social media as being the death knell of forum communities but we leverage the influence of social media to support and promote those same communities. It can be a double-edged sword. We want to pull people away from social media so your...

    Howdy, I'm Al!

To clarify: Not AI, Al. No, that's not very clear. Not AI, AL with an el. It's short for Alan. Sorry, this was supposed to be 'to clarify' not 'to confuse.' Sometimes my typing fingers get away from my brain. So... Anyway, yeah, I'm Al. I've been in and around forums since 2003 when I joined...

Another Admin Forum 2.0: An Introduction to a Legacy!

I was around when TAZ was the hottest ticket in town and I remember AdminExtra.com being a thing but I never stumbled upon this the first time around. But here I am! Hope you're happy! Best wishes and best of luck with AAF.

Should you attach a forum to your blog?

Continuing a conversation started here: REVIEW - 40K Games I have (quickly counts) loads of blogs. Pretty much all in a gaming niche. My question is, will a forum help in promoting a blog? Are forums SEO goldmines or are they ignored? I read somewhere that user-created content (i.e. forums) are...

Should you space out the publication of your articles?

My entirely unscientific approach is to put as much content out as possible initially in order to please the search engine gods. And then, when established settle into a routine so that readers know when you're going to post new content.

Do you have a personal blog?

Mine is OldGamr but I have not written anything since February! In fact, the recent activity has been negligible. It's been running since 2005 though so I should maybe make more of an effort.

Does blog SEO matter to you?

I've paid it some mind as I feel it's important to have irons in all the fires (and fingers in all the pies). But, as @ryanbiddulph suggests, social media is going to be the most obvious source of traffic. Right now I am just building up content, publishing links to Facebook and chatting as...

    Is Wikipedia good for backlinks?

I was writing an article earlier about a game developer called Peter Molyneux. If you don’t know the name you’ll know games like Populous, Dungeon Keeper & Theme Park. Whilst researching I had a look at his Wiki page. There was no mention of this new game so I finished my article and then edited...

    Hello All

Hello Ryan. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

    Hello. I’m Al.

I have a nasty habit of changing my site URL. Try again. I've fixed it.

    Is blogging dead?

Far from dead. The last time I checked 38% of the internet was powered by Wordpress; so they're increasing their market share. Blogging is, like everything else, rapidly evolving. AI will play a huge part in that. I imagine right now that someone with far greater technical knowledge has embedded...

What are the goals of your blog?

It's here: TBC - I hope the niche is obvious just from the URL. I have considered the obvious; which is adsense or an adsense alternative. When we're bigger, I guess sponsored posting would be a thing too. Allow people to promote their games etc. I did consider a store to sell t-shirts, mugs...

What are the goals of your blog?

Ahh. I don’t know. That’s why I joined a site called ‘blogging collective community’. :D

Do you want to blog full-time?

If I could, I would, but it would have to be extremely popular to match my real-world salary. Sadly, blogging shall remain a hobby for me - at least for now.

What are the goals of your blog?

I have (currently) two active blogs. A personal blog with a goal of just being some place I can write down my thoughts and a news/magazine blog where my goal is to earn money. Not a lot. It’s not that kind of thing. Maybe just an experiment to see if I can.

    Guest posting

Has anyone engaged in any guest posting previously? Either by posting on another’s blog or having someone post on yours? How did you find the process and were there any benefits?

What social media sites do you market with?

I’ve tried to create a unified theme for my social media presence but have thus far failed to develop an effective SM marketing strategy. I felt that a unified approach was better for brand establishment so I have: https://twitter.com/GeekGamingonX https://www.facebook.com/GeekGamingonFB...

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I think (and stand to be corrected) that you need to be on a paid plan for wp ads. I have them on my personal blog which is not promoted in anyway. I’ve not made much at all. But that could be because I have not tried to do so. It’s not that kind of blog. My ‘business’ blog has yet to be...
