    Index Now

I'm starting to see that IndexNow on a forum with more active traffic is probably doing more harm than good. I frequently get these warnings: At a certain point, you're sending too many requests as each thing gets replied to, blocking the feature from working as intended. I'm still uncertain...

What did you do to promote your forum today?

I got a Quara backlink today and a couple of days ago I got a backlink on a XenForo Resource on XenForo's community as I commissioned the build of an add on.

    Better Off Topic Sections

This is kind of absurd. Why have 100+ topics (forums) with 1 or 2 posts in each when you could have 5 forums with 20+ messages in each? One looks very unorganized, even though it's made in an attempt to organize. My philosophy is to build out, not build up and then fill in content.

    Post or be deleted!

In a circumstance like this, I would just add the inactive users to a new user group so that you can exclude them from receiving newsletters/mass communications as they could have bad email addresses that would contribute to your bounce rate when they're emailed one of them.

Would you use nulled software, addons, or themes?

Yes, but only in very rare circumstances with license confusion as I have multiple copies of the same add on licensed to different forums that get mixed up. I have forums broken into their respective directories as a base to rebuild (to include backups) from the ground up if restoration fails...

    Better Off Topic Sections

I would most definitely look into new prefixes before contemplating an off-topic sub-forum. It's one thing to have 100 threads with 5 different sub-topics (using prefixes) than 100 threads split across 5 sub-forums. You could probably reevaluate this when you have 1000 threads and 5 sub-topics...

    Spamming your forum

Going to have to define what "spam" is for an answer from me. I pay for quality backlinks, which is a grey area, but it does give me a boost in ratings after a while.

    Post or be deleted!

This happens on some of the few relatively large Facebook groups I'm in too, so it's not just limited to forums. I tend to ignore them because it just seems odd. Why ban lurkers for not wanting to participate? Just let them get the info they want; they're not doing anything (at all) to warrant...

Forums that logout your account frequently?

Oh yeah, back in the '90s/2000s, this was the greatest way a teen could get into "trolling" (before that was a thing), by logging into previously used accounts. I'm sure there's an update soon that'll use the webcam and AI to determine if a human is there and to lock down if a new human appears...

Forums that logout your account frequently?

XenForo has a cookie prefix setting ($config['cookie']['prefix'] = 'xf_';) for a reason. If you're a new admin, you might've set up a dev installation using the default (xf_) and there be a conflict to have to change either/or at one time, knocking everyone offline. This is why I prefer...

Do you "look into" your staff members?

At scale, I don't see how a forum can operate any differently. That is unless they aren't looking at the future or think there's anything of value to be lost, or they never even considered what a rogue staff member could do/pull a forum owner into and are just naturally trusting individuals.

Do you "look into" your staff members?

I think I read somewhere that your (physical) community is so small that they require volunteer firefighters (my hometown was the same with 2 or 3 on payroll, but the rest of the firehouse were volunteers). I'm pretty sure that even volunteers are checked on or vetted by someone as they're put...

Do you "look into" your staff members?

Does it really make a difference? In the U.S., if you run a professional business, you risk going bankrupt if you are forced to pay compensatory or punitive damages. If you run an unincorporated hobbyist forum, you could still be responsible for the same types of damages in a civil lawsuit. That...

Do you "look into" your staff members?

Because they could be staff on a forum that has a general audience of 13-17-year-olds, say a gaming forum, and be a(n un)known sex offender (until you look into them). Do you want somebody on "the list" to moderate your forum, and thereby, be guilty by association, especially if they use the...

    Do you do crypto?

In case anyone is wondering, my sell is marked around $3320 and my buy is $3120ish. Since I'm trading decentralized, I can't put in the typical sell order/stop loss/etc., it has to be manually tracked. I'm only working with pricing alerts to tell me when they hit a number to alert me to take...

    Do you do crypto?

As the governments make more of it and lessen the value... But, I do keep $10,000 and the equivalent of such in Yen (1,000,000 Yen) in my SHTF bag. However, there's far more: That I have physical access to. My favorite piece is a Scottsdale machined 100 oz silver bar. It's literally a brick...

Have you ever started over because you lost a backup to your forum?

Yes, but I'm sure everyone has heard my most recent story of RS after launch. Plesk decided to be cute and upgrade MySQL, and in the process, convert my InnoDB databases to MySQL8, which it failed at doing, corrupting them beyond being scattered bits and bytes with pieces of human readable text...

    How big?

Why don't you make some sort of terms for (moving forward) that any content submitted to the group gives your board a non-exclusive, permanent, irrevocable, unlimited license to use, publish, or re-publish your their submitted there under a "bot" name (or their real name as it's a public group)...

Have you ever used more than one hosting service at a time?

You probably won't need a solution like that unless you have thousands of active users and millions of posts (including conversations). You should just scale up vCPU/RAM as needed. And, when you reach that breaking milestone, or when the prices just make sense, look into multiple instances...

How many/what domains do you currently own?

Having spent days on a range, at one point, 5 days a week for a month straight from 0600 to 1800 for a competition, I know quite a bit about rifles and pistols, specifically, the M16A2 ("AR-15") rifle and M9 ("Beretta 92FS") pistol. Additionally, I was an instructor for 10 or so months, having...
