I'm regularly seeing people bringing forums online that are of general chat nature.
Of all the forum types that I've seen over the years that seem to go by the wayside, it is that niche or games.
My question pertains to the thought process behind recreating the wheel as it were. As the old...
That's new then and a nice change. Last I read they only provided support when the docker system was used. I researched it about a 1/2 a year ago when looking at what other software Neo could run XFH on. I know they provide a GIT repository, but everything I found says they only support...
Direct message labels. I can see a niche need for them, but I can think of other areas that could have had time better spent as DM's are usually not a major part of a site other than for admin/moderators.
The ignore feature on Xenforo.
Poor implementation/use of tags.
That was the hassle when I worked with it. Without Docker and you will get zero official support from the developers from what I read when I messed with it. They only support it when it is installed in a Docker environment. That itself was a turn off. And since I don't have a dedicated...
I think the FA 6 issue may be due to them using a "free" version instead of the Pro. Makes sense since they don't have to license it like a commercial product would?
Discourse is nice.. I just am not crazy about how they push Docker for the installations.
I am busy enough learning still in my niche that I don't want to have to figure out an entire new process on how to run multiple sites on one VPS/server using docker images. If you have a large enough...
The more I'm playing with NodeBB, the more impressed I am about it from a mobile use perspective. It is so much cleaner than many of the other "mobile friendly" forums I've used on mobile, including Xenforo.
Pages is the best thing about the script.
There is so much you can do with it, and if you are accomplished in HTML/CSS and have familiarity with databases you can really extend it. No matter what some might want to claim though, you cannot get to the point of something like XenAddons RMS, CAS...
Thanks. I'm just doing the tech setup stuff and getting it roughed out.
It's a battle between me and Neo messing with settings. I finally asked them to please let me do some tweaking and then they can have at it if they don't like it as I also wanted to learn more about the ACP and it's...
I've used it in the past. For a full featured suite, it's not outrageously priced. It has native functions that you will end up spending about the same on other scripts to get.
I'm already almost $1000 into purchase costs of just a few add-ons and the XF script that I run, so the $499 purchase...
As for NodeBB, the admin did want Discourse, but that was more hassle than it was worth and the install that we tried sucked honestly. They had visited a NodeBB site and liked the way it did for posting and the modern feel it had.
That's the nice thing about NodeBB.
It's not in a docker image...
Thanks... stick it behind the CF proxy though and it slows down to molasses in winter speed! :ROFLMAO:
I have to spend some time later today trying to figure out exactly what it is that is causing it. The only think I've found is that it has something to do with websockets.
And not many...
Yes they are... along with DP's Security add-on. On 2.2.16 it allows the use of Yubi key devices. On 2.3.4 you have Passkey built in so you lose some of the nice features of the DP add-on that is for 2.2.x over the 2.3.x version of it.
it's easy enough to do 2 letter searches by changing your my.conf and adding
[mysqld]
innodb_ft_min_token_size=2
ft_min_word_len=2
The above needs to be in the mysqld section of the config file as denoted.
You then need to rebuild your XF search index after setting the Search Minimum Word...
Yeah, I told Neo as much time as I had spent (about 10 hours getting it all set up and configured to reflect the old structure) I was going to go ahead and push it live.
Most of the other stuff on the old site was not really useful for help other than a couple of threads.
It really looks nice on...
Unless you want to spend a LOT of time making a complex one! :ROFLMAO:
Just got through setting up a development site for the admin of XFH so that they could evaluate it and see if they wanted to move the site off of SMF to it.
Honestly, once it's set up it's not a bad looking package. But...
Yes and no.
You can set up for mySQL to use two/three letter search terms. It is a config setting in the mysql config file and then you have to restart your mySQL server and then rebuild the search index to hopefully enable it.
Frequently on shared hosting, you don't have that ability to set...
Not always. I purchased (and use it) for the benefit it gives for two/three word searches.
When you have items in your niche that are like M1, M45, ZWO, ASI and such it helps since the default mySQL is set at 4 letter words if I remember correctly.
