What about personal attacks?
Like, if a member called you a jerk for example?
I came across a post where you banned someone who publicly wished ill on you - possibly a troll or a psychopath but unpleasant regardless of the readon
Or alternatively you form a negative first impression or jump to the conclusion they’re a troll, but you come across this person on other forums who’s proven themselves valuable contributors.
You’re like me - I love hypothetical debates! I think we’d make great friends Shawny Shawn 😊😁
Hmm okay, let’s say a member x appeared to be provocative and picking fights with a member there. You form a first impression and ban the “troublemaker”. But then you discover that the rudeness was...
It’s not a definition, it’s a username of a member notoorious for this, yet is knowledgeable lol. I don’t wanna turn this into a clone of Bash.ZONE so sorry will stop now 🤭
No way! That promotes more of a blog than a community.
Also what if the AI hallucinates? There’ve been cases of lawyers embarrassing themselves in a courtroom bringing in fabricated case studies, and polite reports containing false information 😆
I want to be somewhere where I am free to express my views without personal attacks.
Let’s have a no hate speech and “attack the view, not the poster” rule in order to promote an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where debates are held respectfully
On the other hand I’ve also seen insults thrown at each other with staff not having the time to get involved in nonsense. Whereas smaller forums tend to be friendlier as you can warn users about personal attacks more quickly.
On big boards they only act on patterns rather than isolated...
I suppose as a small forum you don’t necessarily need a policy. There is no one-size-fits-all approach and you may consider things on a case by case basis, at your discretion.
That’s why the Contact Us Link exists :P
Was just pointing out that win or lose, the damage is still done :P Of course you wouldn’t be friends on any level but how would you feel about letting a member who’s basically dead to you stay on your forum and just completely ignore them? :D
I doubt it matters if the person wins or loses; given the stress, time and legal expenses you had to go through the damage is done, with the exception being an out of court settlement provided it’s amicably settled and not a vexatious lawsuit.
Besides the possible exceptions of discrimination...
Guests can use the link. You do not have to be logged in to do so.
Banned members only view a ban message when logged in on any page.
Alternatively they may message you on a new account but of course only for legitimate appeals you don’t want members coming back to attack you lol
