Should vBulletin Be Considered a Dead Platform in 2025?

Yes, it's a dead platform. It is not the same platform it was back in the day and their support team is very slow. If you're using vBulletin now, it's because you want to use it. It's a choice thing and decision. There isn't too many people around that actually care for vBulletin, it is not a...

Is Shared Hosting Still a Smart Choice for Serious Forums and Blogs in 2025?

It is a good idea to start off with a shared hosting. It's more than enough to power a small site from the beginning, especially if you're only averaging about 100-300 visits a day or so. A new blog owner owner or forum owner should not jump right into buying a VPS server or a dedicated right...

    Bringing Back AAF 1.0

The way I see it since there wasn't a contract involved that stated you can't reuse the database, I'd bring it back. TAZ is dead in the water, it's not going anywhere anytime soon. The content would be better off coming back home to AAF. You could also revamp some of that content as well...

    Worst VPS/DS Experience?

I haven't had any bad experiences while running a VPS or a dedicated server. Most of the companies that I've used were pretty good over the years. I've been fortunate enough that I've had reliable and quality providers.

What's the definition of a big board these days? 100k posts?;)

    Disaster Changing Hosting Companies

I’ve never experienced an issue transfering to another hosting provider. Generally, I’ll upload a full backup and restore the backup on the new server or I’ll transfer everything via the cpmove command.

    Is WordPress Modern?

It’s a paid plugin, however it does offer a lot of things that others don’t all bundle together. However, most of the features it offers, like GZIP compression, page and browser caching, file optimization, CDN integration (Cloudflare or another), lazy loading can actually be done at the server...

A lot of boards are also utilizing discourse. Especially the 32bit cafe, which is a webmaster/coding help forum. https://discourse.32bit.cafe/ You also have many forums using Xenforo as seen by @frm forum directory. There are boards out there that we don’t even know about unless we go through...

    Using Two Domains

No. I wouldn’t do it either. If I ever purchased any forum or domain, I’d do a 301 redirect and go with my main domain. I don’t see a reason as to why you’d use two domains for the same forum unless a)you just rebranded. B) buying a new domain to redirect others to the main.

    Is WordPress Modern?

Too many add ons will do that with any software. It creates more queries per page and slows down your overall performance. If the plugins aren’t necessary enhancing the blog, they shouldn’t be used. OPcache, like @Tracy discussed in another topic, can help boost your PHP/MySQL performance and...

    Forum Bandwidth

I agree with this. Forums should have more than just the boards itself. Having more to offer actually sets us apart from other online communities that don’t offer much except for the boards. As forum owners, we aren’t the only online communities around anymore and if we can offer more to our...

    Hosting outside your country

It’s because it was a price thing and more affordable. I used to have my server in the United States, but I didn’t want to continue paying $75 a month where now, I’m paying $37 a month for better speed and support.

Do you have a Facebook Group?

That’s exactly the route that I’m going with. It’s tied directly to my page and I funnel some things from the page itself, but not all. I generally post unique things in the group that aren’t originally on my page itself. I have a couple of active members so far, but the niche is pretty big and...

    Hosting outside your country

I'm a U.S. citizen, so I follow U.S. laws, but since my site’s hosted in Canada, some Canadian rules like their privacy laws, could technically apply, especially in how data’s stored or handled. I’m not operating from Canada or targeting Canadian users specifically, so I doubt I’d fall fully...

    Forum Bandwidth

Yes, most of my images are now served from the cdn(cache) instead of always loading from the forum itself, so it cuts down the bandwidth usage. My forum images generally never changed, so i have the browser cache setting set to 1 month. Then, the cache will expire.

    Forum Bandwidth

My forum was using 30-40 gb of bandwidth on a monthly basis, but now it doesn't. I'm using Cloudflare on the backend for most of my attachments along with another caching system. Currently, I'm using 1-2 gb of bandwidth.

Do you have a Facebook Group?

I recently made a facebook group to go along with my page. It currently has 25 members. It’s really not that active just yet. However, it’s a place where users can discuss funny content, inspiring or motivational content. https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1ENeKnPy5a/?mibextid=wwXIfr
