Not if you are running Xenforo (I know this thread is about Invision). How long have we been waiting on 2.4 to be released?
It was announced (over a year ago) as targeted for Q4/2024 Q1/2025. We are now almost to Q4/2025 and honestly it will probably be Q1/2026 at the earliest before we see...
Last I saw from them was acknowledgement at a certain level of self-hosting they would cease the product as it would not be worthwhile.
They may have changed their story yet again, as I don't read a lot over there. And honestly, as many times as they have said one thing and done something...
I no longer use Invision, and even though I like their script I am hesitant about going back to it due to the self-hosting issue. That is a declining market for them and they have already made adjustments to their licensing plans to try to maintain income for it. They have already talked...

Have to agree with this 100%.
Pages is what really makes (for me) Invision stand out.
And yes, you do have to know some coding to make the display look decent. It is not that hard, but it involved learning some of the templating (and its quirks) that Invision used.
Yes, but it has been a while back (4.3 version).
I used it to create a link directory, and a product review section similar to what XenAddon's 3rd party Xenforo add-ons offer along with some standard articles.
The first two required some custom coding in templates to get the page layout like I...
For my primary site, the only thing running on it (and it's a dedicated server) is that site. I don't even do my mail serving from it. Only the website.
On my VPS instances, I'll run (if a PHP based script or NodeBB) generally a maximum of 3 on them. I have one running a singular instance of...
Not I... it's more headache than it's worth, especially if you have other things going on in your life.
It's so much easier just either buying a server and having it co-located or renting a server from a reliable vendor.
Generally I do not.
But on the astro site I do as even I use a link image that actually is not an "ad" for my site or anything like that (and those will be moderated if I find them).
It is a fairly updated animated image of cloud cover in my area that I do captures at.
But it also why I allow...
Most home ISP's will not allow you to run a website from your house service in their TOS. They also will typically block port 25 for MTA sending.
So you will have to find a ISP provider that allows hosting, and many of those charge a business rate. To be reliable they will also usually want to...
Having played with various other scripts recently really opened my eyes to what is out there now.
So, if I was looking for a forum only solution, most likely not. I'd lean more towards Discourse. NodeBB is would also be one I would look hard at.
If needing quality extensions like classifieds...
On my XFH site I uploaded the exported banned email list I use.
It was created over a few years using what were found to be spammer emails using multiple domains that would not typically be joining sites (company domains primarily).

Sadly...
Technically almost all are a dictatorship. Now, it can be a benevolent dictatorship, but generally the site owner(s) determine the direction of the site. That is not to say that they do not take feedback from their users, but the final determination is not one that is voted on by the users...
Condolences.
Both my parents have been gone for over a decade. I am part of the "second group" of kids, with my older siblings being 12-14 years older than me (one passed already).
So I didn't have them around for as long as I would have liked even though they passed in their 80's.
There is no...
I can see removing/demoting staff that does not participate, especially if paid. But for users, a user account does not take up that much space in the database so I personally see no reason to be "pruning" them.
But again... each admin does as they deem necessary for their site. I just don't...
I'm not so sure about that. As I pointed out, a lot of folks hit the resources on my site. And I guess because other sites force you to be a member to access resources on those sites they think theymust do the same on my site.
Never mind that the first time you go to the resources link you see...
They can run one... but unless it has hard to find content, odds are that there are not going to be masses flocking to them that most new admins hope for.
But they need to have reasonable expectations as to the limitations of a site based around posts.
For those users that just want to find a...
Over the last several years the Xenforo developers have pretty much ignored any major advancements/improvements in XFMG, XFRM or XFES. Guess they have a hard enough time with just the core forum offering and their SaaS keeping them busy.
But they did, as I mentioned, make some improvements in...
This has been a LONG pet peeve of mine - but more based upon content discovery and how some scripts restrict some of its strongest feature(s) from use of it.
An example, custom fields in use by Xenforo. It's been asked for for years that they enable the discovery of custom fields... and for...
And this is a big issue. Sadly, the "forum is the best" defenders go out of their way to try to make out like what is wanted is for the forum format to become social media like FB/X/BlueSky/Truth Social. When in reality, what is usually asked for is for the forum script developers to look at...
