    Regretting a platform switch

I can't say I have ever switched a platform that I have used for my forums and then regretted it later. For the most part, I made changes from free software to new free software, for example, I went from phpBB to MyBB when that was released, and from MyBB I went to vBulletin. When Xenforo was...

    Pivoting with a name change

I always tend to put a lot of thought into the name of any website, forum, or blog I have, so that I do not fall into the issue of having to change it at a later date. If there was ever a time I needed to make a name change, I would address the community first before making any changes.

Planning forum content like a blogger

This is something I used to try and practice for my forum, but I soon found it became too much for the topics I had planned, which I soon felt would not be suitable, and I ended up scrapping them. I tend to now, especially with my general chat forum, post in the moment things such as trending...

    Anonymous Forum Admins

I have always been wary of forums that have an anonymous admin. You don't see it too often now, but I have in the past seen forums in which the admin was simply called, as you stated, Admin, and they were very secretive. I feel this is just off-putting, and it is definitely something that would...

    Custom forum icons

I love to see custom forum icons when it comes to forums, but I also understand that in some niches, especially in a professional niche, custom icons may not always be ideal. I own a general chat forum, and I love to use custom icons for the node icons. I feel it adds to the fun of the forum :)

    $5,000

This is a good question :) If I were handed $5,000 right now, tax-free, there is so much I could do with it. Thinking about it, I would more than likely pay off anything I needed to pay off, make sure I had all gifts for my family for Christmas, and I would also put some away and invest too.

Age to participate on your forum

I always require members to be of the age of 13 and up when they register and use my forum. I am always keeping an eye on laws thought in my country just in case that changes.

    WRITING IN ALL CAPS?

I have always been someone who has seen writing in all caps as a form of shouting, so it is not something I like to see in my community or in any other community. Others may have a different opinion on caps being used, though.

    Moderators must post

I would at least hope that my moderators would think to help create content and keep conversations flowing, but would never give a certain amount for them to do per day. As long as they are active and contributing in a way that they are happy with, I am happy with that.

    Free Forum Hosting Service

I have in the past used jCink, ProBoard and Forumotion for a free forum and out of all of those, I found jCink the better option at least for me to use. I find free forum hosting perfect for hobby forums.

    Backup Your Forum!

I always used to forget to backup my forum and it used to annoy me a lot as I could at any point have an issue with my forum and then I wouldn't have a recent backup. I aim for once a week at least now to be sure I have one.

    Unique Forum Promotion Methods

For the most part I tend to advertise on promotion forums as I have always been wary about using Quora and Reddit as I don't want to look like a spammer. I had forgotten about Pinterest so that is one I am going to look at again! :)

Places on Reddit that you can advertise your forum

This is a great list! I always worry about advertising on Reddit because I don't want to look like a spammer. It would be great to hear tips on how to advertise successfully from others.

Is most drama on forums due to political debate?

I firmly believe that politics is one of the top reasons there is drama on forums. Of course, everyone is going to have a different opinion and we should respect that but you do get some that have the attitude of "if you don't agree with me you are wrong" and that is where the drama starts.

How do you feel about necro posting?

I have no issues with necro posting myself as long as the old thread that was posted in offers engagement and is still relevant at the time. In some cases, you can strike up engagement again by resurfacing old threads and I do like that.

    Hot Tea

As a British person I love tea, so much so I could drink so much per day but I know that is not good for me at all. I tend to drink the basic tea and have in the past drunk fruity-flavoured teas as well.

Do you have a personal blog?

At the moment I do not have a personal blog but it is something I have looked into and considered in the past. I love to write and know that a personal blog would give me a lot to write about.

Do you try before you buy or download?

I am always someone who prefers to try before I buy or jump into a subscription option if they offer one. I have been looking into vBulletin of late and have been interested in their cloud option but have not been able to see if they offer a trial or even a try before you buy. Does vBulletin...

Do you manage forums with different software?

At the moment all forums I manage are on Xenforo but I have been looking into vBulletin as I have seen a few forums using that software and do like the layout of the software now. I remember I stopped using vBulletin when they went from 3 to 4 as I didn't like how things have changed.

If a .com isn't available, what's your next choice?

There have been many cases in which I have gone to purchase a domain and the .com is not available. I tend to be a little disappointed but if I am unable to get the .com I will go for either .net or .org if I need to, in some cases I will brainstorm a new name if I can't get the .net or .com as...
