If you were to pay for an online community or blog using SaaS, what would you expect as a paid community/blog operator?
This is for those who would run the community or blog not members paying for membership. To pay for something to run, what would you expect from it?
In case you don't know...
Or at least, is this going to be the future?
I could eventually see XenForo, vBulletin, and Invision going into full SaaS platform mode. You either host it on their cloud or you go somewhere else.
What do you all think? Are the days of self-hosting coming to an end because of the rise of SaaS?
For those that host on the Cloud or a SaaS platform, do you worry about one day of losing your community?
Those platforms require a certain amount of investment and revenue in order to stay online. If they don't get it, they can close shop and you'll lose your community.
How do you prepare for...
I'm seeing less opensource and more SaaS (software as a service).
SaaS is nice until you can't afford it or they boot you off, then you typically lose everything at that point.
Opensource needs to be preserved but I fear we're losing it.
How do you all feel about this?
