Hi everyone,

First off, welcome to the new Administrata: Invision.

For some of you, this might come as a surprise. For others, it’ll take a bit of adjustment. And for many, it’ll feel like coming home. Let me explain why we’ve made the switch.

XenForo’s development has been disappointing for months - arguably years - with little meaningful progress. There’s been a lot of talk, but not enough action. Meanwhile, Invision Community V5 has been steadily evolving, offering strong content discovery tools, solid SEO features, and consistent updates. It just made sense. With much more to come in the near future.

Of course, with any transition, there are trade-offs. We’ve lost a few add-ons, and parts of the forum will need to be reworked. Some things will go, others will be introduced. The goal is to simplify, focus on content, and provide a better experience - whether you're on mobile or desktop.

Give us a little time to get everything set up properly. We promise - it’ll be worth it.

Thanks for sticking with us,
– Administrata

Wow - that's a dramatic change, LOL.

That's going to take getting used to!

I find the Invision platform not as user friendly as it used to be. However... Your theme looks pretty good.

Did you survey your members to see if they wanted the change before you made it?

Personally I find that the new Invision flows much better than XenForo in many aspects. And to top it off.. he has a whole suite of products to offer to his members instead of trying to piecemeal stuff together like you have to with XenForo.
If it wasn't for Bob's add-ons that I depend on heavily on my site... XenForo would be a thing of the past on my primary site also. I can't afford to have 3rd party developers to extend Pages to what Bob's add-ons offer... I'm still tied up buying hardware for niche user outreach, which for me is more important than the site.

As an exciting update, Administrata will be migrating to Invision’s Cloud platform under the Creator Pro plan tomorrow!

This move unlocks a suite of powerful, Cloud-exclusive features we’re excited to roll out - from live engagement tools to AI enhancements and more. It’s another big step toward making Administrata not just a forum, but a true next-gen community experience. 😄

To ensure a smooth transition, the board will be taken offline temporarily during the migration. We expect to bring it back online by the afternoon.
Thanks for your patience - and yes, this really is the last migration... promise. 😉

Just want to comment.. I really appreciate how you are emphasizing on your site the powers that the Invision script offers.
Granted.. those that choose self-hosting do not have full use of that... but the core site is what all can currently have.
My only big issue (and which you and any others that know me) have is the fact that I have strong questions on the life-span of their self-hosting offering.
I really have zero desire to set up a site on SaaS and continue to pay for other self-hosted offerings. Currently I do so for 3 other VPS instances for websites, another VPS for email and a dedicated server for a site offering. I simply cannot justify adding $90 a month to my expenditures for a singular site to get a few offerings that will rarely be used but offer a slim offering when I can get more storage and equivalent HTTP/S offerings for $17 a month plus SES costs.
And no.. using CentMin Mod to run a site is not really that hard for anyone that has any basic technical competence. Keeping it updated is a simple matter of cut/paste. You want to start tweaking the system... then that is on you. But my sites have been running on CentMin for years with zero issues, but I don't try to push the boundaries.

I completely understand that. It’s a higher cost, and Invision is well aware that it isn’t cheap. While they don’t have plans to drop self-hosting anytime soon, we both know that self-hosting is slowly becoming a dying trend. Maybe not in the next 2 years, or even 5 — but in 10? It’s likely only a small portion of their customer base will still be on it. That’s just the reality, and eventually they’ll need to make decisions to keep things sustainable. And honestly, in your position, I wouldn’t move to SaaS either. Not just for a few extra perks — not when you’ve already built a solid VPS setup and have the know-how to manage it.

This IS one of the big issues that I have. And I readily recognize that fact and realize that for others it is a very acceptable solution.
Not everyone has the Linux/Server experience I am blessed with and were not exposed to Linux in it's early release form nor are idiots that pursue those tracks when they offer no financial benefit (yeah idiot me!!!! 🫅)..
Several of my friends call me an idiot savant when it comes to computers/networking - and no, I don't get offended like some might when stuff like that is said (hello CD and any other relevant XF developers/staff). A few of them I laugh at and ask them who is currently happily married (and has been for 40+ years) and who is currently single (since to a tee all of them are) and looking for that "real love" that most chase. :ROFLMAO:

I am blessed with a mind that seems to be able to intake and process data related to server/computer related fields. Some other fields that are associated are folded in.
Don't ask me how that happened.. I first noticed it with my first computer and it grew... and I am not one of those social butterflies so computers were a safe zone.
But how to be "socially acceptable and kiss ass"... that filter is not available :sneaky:.
And it will never be. Something I was taught young.. be true to your beliefs even if others try to make fun of them. And sadly, XF has been a classic case of that philosophy of denigrating those that do not comport to their expected levels of behavior lately since certain parties took power. Invision at least has the cajones to stand behind their current beliefs and defend them.. never mind how they kicked the earlier positions to the curb for their current ones.
Am I socially adept.. nope.... and never claimed to be. But I do give you the unvarnished truth as I see it.

Invision has many attractive features.. but its biggest negative from my point of view is the lack of long term security for self-hosting. Other than that, they would be high on my list of scripts to look at for a website that offer more than a simple as **** forum (Xenforo) that you can find the equivalent of for free (Discourse).
Xenforo lacks the los cojones to address issues they are confronted with when it comes down to their slow updates, their inability to offer end user improvements and the overall aspect of dealing with license holders needs, instead trying to find paths to divert those that confront them and lashing out at any that call them to heel (and heatedly doing so) and instead comport to whatever simplistic forum only based (since they continue to ignore their very 1st party add-ons) philosophy. It is honestly going to end up biting them in the ass since both Invision and Woltlab continue to push beyond a "forum only" based offering that they seem to be stuck on.
And ultimately.. calling out Xenforo developers to this weakness seems to piss them off the the maximum.. but did I mention I don't really care since I no longer play favorites?
