Age to participate on your forum

Do you require members be a specific age to be able to participate on your forum?

I always require members to be of the age of 13 and up when they register and use my forum. I am always keeping an eye on laws thought in my country just in case that changes.

Anime is a all ages thing like Pokémon and Digimon are kid anime, so I allow 13 and up. But I do have age restricted section that is accessible via a custom field, but I have a disclaimer that states that my site is not responsible for any underage person getting into the age restricted section.

However, I almost feel like there is just too much liability in allowing juveniles.

So, now it's 18+ only. I know that means I might lose membership, but I feel it's the safer way of running a community.

Which is honestly for the better. As you say, less risk on liabilities. And plus, anyone under 18 is most likely not on forums or similar sites. They have other media channels to attend to. I don't think we're losing out much by restricting access to minus 18.

I agree.

Now 15-20 years ago, I'd disagree.

Back then, a lot of kids were using forums. A lot of those kids are adults now who still use forums. But these new generations? Nah. They don't even know what a forum is.

Most of the forums I started with was from 13 years up but there's usually a problem with them kids because they don't really pay attention to the rules.

It's why I feel more comfortable bumping it up to 18 years and above now.

I think most 17 and under kids aren't really into forums like they used to be.

So, 18+ is a standard that I don't see too many people getting upset over these days.

They are the new generation TikTok sensations we see today. Posting of forums is a complete waste of time to many of them because they won't get fame quickly on forums like they do on TikTok.

Exactly. Those aren't the people I'm targeting with my community, either.

I just keep the minimum age to join my forum set at 13 years old. But come think of it, how many 13 year old are even interested in forums? Never even had a teenager sign up for my forum. For inclusion sake, I just keep the minimum age at 18.
