Are forums outdated?

Can you show me a forum software platform that has changed its look and feel over the past 20 years significantly enough where it doesn't look the same?

Social media and websites are constantly changing their look and feel to update to modern demands. But forums are staying the same because it's hard for a theme designer to work with a platform that really only has one way of being themed, right?

Do you feel like all forum platforms are outdated? Why or why not?

I started posting on forums on a regular basis in 2015, phpbb was the first forum software I used. The software is pretty same. Same is the case with other software as well. Look how much social media has changed, look at the features developed within social media but forums are pretty same.
