Best free discussion forum software

In your opinion, what is the best free discussion forum software?

What would be your first choice and why?

Curious about this as well. I used to use one back in the day called InvisionFree. However, that was awhile ago. Looking for some ideas, hos is myBB and phpBB for free software?

I have tried SMF, phpBB and MyBB. These are open source forum software and probably the most popular options. Based on my personal experience, I think SMF is the best discussion forum software.

What would be your first choice and why?

I've tended to like phpBB more lately. It is less complicated to setup than MyBB, but I suspect there are less mods. Also, it is mobile friendly, but mobile friendly can be fixed on MyBB with a free or paid theme.

I've been setting up forums using almost every main forum software.

I don't have any using Invision or WBB yet - for now.

I did setup a phpbb3 forum though. So far, I like it. I've only ever used phpBB1 and phpBB2. I've used v3 as a member but never ran one.
