How do you feel about making blog comments for the purpose of promoting your forum?

This strategy means you'll write a quality comment on a blog post and then add your forum to the URL field of your blog comment.

Do you find this to be a good strategy? Why or why not?

Used to be. Not so sure now. I actually have comments to my posts shutoff in 30 days. If left on too long you get nothing but spam.
I never shut off my comments. I just add spam controls and moderate them. For the most part, the spam folder catches most spam. I'm starting to see AI-generated spam though. They make it look like they're real, but the link confirms it's junk.

It might still be helpful, especially if you leave a comment on a high-ranking blog. I’m not 100% sure if this strategy is still effective today, but when I used to have a website, I promoted it by leaving comments on popular blogs and including my website link in the URL.

I never really saw comments as a way to get a backlink if that's what you are referring to?

In fact, I always saw comments as a way for the author and other readers to find my linked website, after reading something interesting that I contributed. Simple link promotion was always my idea of what comments were good for.

I mean, I always figured WordPress had it built-in that comment links were No Follow. Am I wrong about that?
