Once a forum becomes a big board, is there even a need to promote the forum anymore?

Is a forum like Digital Point for example actively promoting its community and content or is it letting members do the promoting and word-of-mouth for them?

What do you all think about this topic?

No, digitalpoint is at the point where it promotes itself at this point.

However, I do believe that Shawn’s add ons that he releases helps him with marketing the forum as uses “digitalpoint” as his alias on Reddit and on Xenforo.

Word of mouth is the strongest growth factor once a forum takes off and becomes a power house.

I think you're right about that. I think Word of Mouth is really the greatest marketing asset for a forum. If your members are loyal enough to promote you, then you're successfully creating a community.

A community is different than a forum.

When a forum reaches the stage of being classified as a community, the members are no longer looking at what they are going to gain from the community but what they will contribute towards the growth and sustainability of the community.
