What new features should be on every new forum?

I've found that less is more. You need to get the content to the users with as little hassle as possible. No front page, no fancy graphics and no huge amounts of forums that they have to drill down through.

The main reason Discourse became an overnight success was because you see the content as soon as you hit the index page. That's why Reddit made it to the top of the food chain in the forum world. They can have millions of topics and each one shows content first.

I tend to agree.

I even like to remove the sidebar because I feel it distracts members from the forum.
