How much forum experience do you have?

In terms of:
  • Years of experience running forums
  • Experience in different platforms and software
  • Programming experience
  • Any additional experience
What experience level would you like to call yourself in terms of being involved in forums?

30 years building and owning forums. Never had a preference for any software. I do think IPB has a leg up now.
Programmed in assembly, fortran, cobol, basic, qbasic, visual basic, c, c++, perl, c#, asp, asp.net, visual basic.net. Dabbled in PHP. Haven't really coded much of anything except to patch stuff in years.
Started as an intern at IBM at 16, served my country for 6 year, got my bachelors and masters and went to work as an structural engineer for the next 40 years.

I have 19 years of experience working on and owning forums. I’ve used vBulletin, IPB, SMF, and now XenForo.

I’m also experienced in SEO and marketing, though I’d say I’m more proficient in SEO than in marketing.

I, too, have been running forums for decades.

I always did most of the promoting and all that stuff myself. I learned a lot but most of the marketing and SEO expertise came from blogging more than anything else and now I apply it to my forum communities.
