Hostgator was actually one of my first hosting providers and their support team was garbage. They took forever to respond to support tickets as well.
I’ll never use them again.

First host provider was NameCheap. They really were not cheap when you looked at the second year pricing and their service was not that good.
Then I moved over (after about 1 1/2 months with NameCehap) to Host Gator. Stayed with them for about 2 months and they were not much better.
Figured since I already was familiar with Linux I'd grab a VPS and off I went from there.
