How did you decide on the software for your forum?

What made you choose the forum software you use for your forum?

I went with Xenforo, because it seems to be the most popular choice, and it has core features that I wanted for my community.
Here lately and for the past several years, I've always leaned toward XenForo. I started using them right when they started. I was impressed throughout their lifecycle, though development seems little by little anymore.

However, I am trying other things out.

vBulletin 6 isn't bad. It's not as featured as XF, but it's not that bad.

Xenforo for it's 3rd party market, easy UI, popularity, promising future.

I'm building a new adult forum on Invision Community v5 (Currently BETA) and it's honestly refreshing to see some great innovations.

Possibilities are literally endless. The new theme editor makes customization a breeze. I've seen countless different forums with the same base theme in the BETA discussion on Invision Community, but all so different. The drag and drop, page builder, innovative content placing, it's genius.

More and more, I'm tempted to try it but the price is just an ouchie LOL
