Ad revenue alone is yesterday’s play. Making real money from a website today takes a lot more than that. I do well now, but it didn’t happen overnight - it took years of consistent work and building a name people trust. Serving admins with quality themes, apps, and hands-on help is hard work (and honestly a shrinking niche), but if your output is excellent, it still pays. I’m basically on 24/7 - building, theming, supporting, communicating, networking, and keeping customers happy - and that’s what makes the difference.
 
Very very true.

I don't really monetize on forums right now. They're really just a place for me to escape the grind and just enjoy the chat.

But on my blogs, I do make money, and it took around 6 years to make serious money. Serious enough where I pay into taxes now and don't get a refund, but I also get write stuff off, too. :D
