I remember joining a big cycling forum a few years back.

Like I always do, when I like a forum, I start making posts.

Sometimes, I post a lot. I might even post 20 or 30 times a day.

I make it a point to post something that adds to the discussion rather than one liners.

There were no flood controls on the forum, either.

The next day I cam back to be temp banned for a month for posting too much.

I never logged back in after that. Washed my hands of the place.

Was I wrong? If so, what is the justification to prohibit a member from posting "too much"?

Or were they wrong? Would you allow your members to post a lot? Even if they were contributing good content?

P.S. Post as much as you want on AAF.

I would never ban anyone for posting. In fact I welcome them to post as much as they want. When I first met you I was always happy to see you register. I knew I'd get good content.
A lot of people tell me that and I have to make sure I continue to live up to that standard, posting a lot but posting good stuff. :)

Sounds like they had a personal problem with you. Couldn't imagine anyone being this dumb by banning someone who posts legit content too much. But here we are, you learn something new everyday! :P

I don't find a good reason to ban a user for too much posting. The only logical reason if the posts were not good at all.
I have actually removed(not banned) inactive accounts, but never the active ones.

Admins want new members to post something, but not post too much! And to introduce themselves but to not self-advertise! And it's okay to post some links but not too many links! And to be friendly and open to asking any questions and giving any feedback but also don't you dare infringe on any of the rules!

There is a social context and emotional intelligence to joining a new community that I genuinely think is harder for online groups. If this were a real world group or real world event, we would have all of the social cues to tell that Shawn is earnest and well-meaning in nature: he is super friendly and super talkative and going around to EVERYONE to talk :ROFLMAO: .

In forums, you miss out on something like 60 - 70% of those verbal and physical cues. You lose body language, verbal cues, facial gestures, and so much more. In forums, we're represented through our words and words alone. Words don't just matter in forums, they are the matter.

True, important to read the room. “Posting too much” is just way too vague imo, and laughae. Maybe it’s better members post too little than too much? 😆

And hopefully I’m surprised you with decent enough posts too :D
