Moving old content to archive boards

What do you think about forums that practice moving old content to archived sections?

Usually archived sections don't allow you to create new content or reply but you can still read content.

I guess it's a way of keeping original content without losing it but also closing out stuff that hasn't been discussed in years.

Do any of you practice this or something similar?

I don't practice this, but I do keep all my content available in the forums so anyone can access them. I do think it's a good idea to have an archive if your forum's topics are over 10 years old though.
