Forum addons can create technical debt for some forum owners.
I've heard of forum owners refusing to upgrade their forum software because new versions are not compatible with addons they use on the forum. The addons are apparently so needed or popular that the forum owner can't risk messing them up.
How do you feel about this?
If you needed to upgrade but it would kill a popular addon your forum uses, would you upgrade or stay put until the addon was upgraded for that version. What if the addon maker decided not to update to addon for that version and there were no other addons like that one available?
