One-column forum-style

Does anyone else like the one-column forum-style better?

That's like this forum. No sidebar. Just one column.

I've always felt it looks better on a desktop and is better as a responsive theme.

Who agrees? Who disagrees?

Yes I do. I am slowly removing the sidebar from my forums. They were cool for a while. They outlived there purpose.

I think they're a distraction for both the user and the admin.

I used to constantly watch the vanity metrics of who was online, new members, what they were doing, etc. because it was right in my face on the sidebar.

For users, they might start posting profile posts instead of looking around on the forum because it's simpler.

I am thinking about doing away with the forums and use the feature to show latest posts as forum home. Put the content right in the users faces.

I noticed on my IPB test site that is exactly what they do. You have to turn on the showing of the forums.

I saw that on offtopic.com as I was looking for inspiration for mine new OT forum.

It's interesting but I'm not used to it.

It might be the way to go, though!

I am in the process of importing one of my tech sites into the IPB site. Want to get a look at it with a good amount of posts.

Also testing the importer in case I decide to put a couple sites back on IPB.

Man, I love that you're doing all that, messing with different software platforms. It reminds me of the old days. I almost want to make a few more communities with MyBB, PhpBB, and SMF just to see how they are these days.

I just don't need to bite off more than I can chew LOL

When I first opened admins zone I installed just about every forum software I could find so users could test. It was a big draw at the time. Most of the members that joined ran vbulletin or IPB. They had no idea there were other software out there.

I am thinking I might do something similar again. Install IPB is s tep in that direction.

One of the default views of IPS is a stream view anyways. It's very Discourse-ish

Yes it is. I am working through some permission issues on the test site. Once I get them worked out I'll post it as a test IPB site.
