How do you feel about posting repeated topics that you used before because they got a lot of replies?

Basically, you filter a section on your forum to see what has been replied to the most, then you create the same topic but if different words in order to hopefully reignite a popular topic on your forum.

Is this something you would or do practice or is it something you don't use on your forum?

Did you ... Recycle this topic?? 🫢

Actually, I did haha. But it wasn't originally posted on this forum.

I use that strategy on other bigger admins forums for inspiration on new ideas. But I do try to create a unique idea so that I'm not just copying.

Most of the time it's on TAZ and the funny thing is that most of the topics are by me from when they merged AAF 1.0 into it.

On a serious note, I think this could be a valid strategy if you're looking to drive engagement for the sake of engagement. Its great at driving more posts. However ...

My critique of this strategy is that you will find yourself rehashing volatile topics (IPS vs XF! XF versus IPS!), which doesn't progress broader discourse.

Definitely have to be picky and choosy about what you restart.

It's not a good practice in my opinion because that's like encouraging your members to start creating old topics all over again.

Bumping the older topics is the best thing to do. It's going bring it up for members to see it again and possibly engage in it again.

I could understand that for content that would be considered duplicate but if you create a new but very similar topic around a previously "viral" one, it might not have those negative impacts.

I do like the idea of "bumping" old topics that were popular as long as your bump adds to it.

It is true doing that might not have a negative impact but you should also be on the lookout for some members that are very itchy when it comes to pointing out that a thread is similar to a previous one that I've already been created to know how to handle such situation.
