Here's a scenario for you all to think about and respond to:

You buy a big board. After you buy it, you notice the most active members on the board are all a part of a clique. They're great with forum veterans but they're mean to newbies and often team up on bullying them.

They treat you with respect but get very defensive and threaten to have a mass-boycott if changes are made that they don't like.

What do you do in this situation?

Community matters. Let the community decide the direction of the forum within reason, if it's a good idea. I like to create polls, and get feedback from my community before I make big changes, it's also make them feel like their decisions matter, and help mold the forum.
I like that answer.

However, what if the community favors the group that bullies?

Would you try to change them somehow, or could you stomach allowing them to continue like they do?

Went through this. After they tried to bully me, like they did the previous owner, I shut the site down. They begged me to open it because no other place would tolerate them. I did open it and sold it right away. Make a good profit on it too.

The forum was for originally a usenet group that started the forum. It was for Honda ATV riders. It was a small tight nit group of users. The new owner eventually banned all the bullies. The site did very well without them.

Wow, it was bad enough you shut down the site 😱 Are you open to sharing what happened in public without naming or shaming?

I feel like getting rid of the bullies, no matter if it hurts at first, is the most reasonable thing to do.

Otherwise, you invite a toxic environment, and I don't know about you, but I can't stand to be a part of that kind of community.

💯 and I feel like reopening the site because the bullies begged you to make you appear as a leader, and especiwlly because they said no one else would tolerate them, it made it sound like you would.
