Design Should designing evolve with trends?

Most forum designs are typical and predictable.

They all pretty much follow a familiar structure. Rarely, do we see any significant changes with designs.

However, member trends are always evolving. Those trends often demand designs evolve with the trends.

The "light theme and dark theme" trend is a great example. So is mobile responsiveness.

There are, however, many more trends that forum themes typically ignore.

What do you think about this? I'm especially interested in hearing from designers of forum themes!
