How do you maintain forum momentum during the slow seasons on your community?

What are your slow seasons? I know different forums and niches will have different slow seasons. The busy seasons are fresh with new threads, many replies, and loads of new members for most of us. But the slow season can sometimes make you think your forum is dying. It's important for forum owners and founders to keep the momentum going even if that means working harder on the forum during those slow days.

How are you all going about this? Has it been successful for you at all?

Sometimes you can do contests, promotions, adding new things and nothing seems to work on slow seasons.
Sometimes we just have to go through it as it is.

Users also have a life and they might need a break from online for one reason or another.
It's just part of the game. Don't get too caught in the slow momentum.
