Takeover ads

The following image is of a takeover ad on a forum I joined today.



The ad is designed to takeover the page. You can click outside of the ad box to get it to go away.

I find them to be the new popup - completely annoying. LOL.

I do know they typically make websites more money. I was getting more when I used them on my blog versus now that I've disabled it because it's annoying.

I've never downloaded anything to block Google Ads, but these ads make me want to. If only I could block these types.

How do you all feel about takeover ads? Do you use them on your forum? Do you get complaints at all?

That's a red flag for me. I don't care how interesting the content may be, shove that in my face and I'll bounce off immediately.

That's new from Adsense. I have them turned off. I did use them when they were in beta. They show up when you click any link once you're on the site. They do make money.

I A/B tested it on my blog but I had to turn it off because I can't stand it as a user so I'd be a hypocrite if I wouldn't engage a site that used them but yet I used them.

Google will turn them back on from time to time. I have to go back and disable it. LOL
