How do you feel about using a hosting service outside of your country?

For example, if you live in the United States, would you be fine with using a hosting service outside of the US? The same question for someone in the UK for example, would you use something outside of the UK? What if it was in the US? Does that change things?

My current server is hosted outside of the United States(Canada), however, my previous server was hosted in the United States.
Now, does that mean you have to abide by the rules of that country concerning policies and privacy matters?

I'm a U.S. citizen, so I follow U.S. laws, but since my site’s hosted in Canada, some Canadian rules like their privacy laws, could technically apply, especially in how data’s stored or handled. I’m not operating from Canada or targeting Canadian users specifically, so I doubt I’d fall fully under their jurisdiction, but hosting there still means I should be mindful of stuff like PIPEDA. It’s not that their rules override mine, but more like their hosting environment has its own set of expectations.

Why is your server in Canada?

Is it a price thing or is that the closest one to you?

Both of my servers are in Oregon.

It’s because it was a price thing and more affordable. I used to have my server in the United States, but I didn’t want to continue paying $75 a month where now, I’m paying $37 a month for better speed and support.
