Is it still a good idea to use shared hosting (if it can be transferred, that is) as a starting point for launching a new forum or blog in 2025 and beyond?

Or should people jump right onto the VPS or DS bandwagon from the start?

Why do you feel the way you do about this topic?

It is a good idea to start off with a shared hosting. It's more than enough to power a small site from the beginning, especially if you're only averaging about 100-300 visits a day or so.

A new blog owner owner or forum owner should not jump right into buying a VPS server or a dedicated right off the bat.

However, if you're a forum owner(not new) with high traffic, then a VPS or a dedicated server is perfect for you as it'll last you a long time.

Shared hosting is never good for anything "serious".

You can start off with shared hosting, but as soon as things get serious, you should be on a VPS or Cloud infrastructure.

I would say that as soon as you break even, is about the time you should be moving away from shared hosting and scaling.

I don't think I was on shared hosting for very long once I started running message forums.

Before that, when I just did static websites that I coded, I used it but none of those websites were anything to write home about.
