What is your forum to you?

A hobby or something you want to do for fun because it's your passion in life.

A business or something you hope to earn a profit from and eventually maybe even make into some form of passive income.

or is it both? Or something else?

It's a hobby now. It used to be a good source of income.

Mine started as a hobby, but over time I began earning a bit from ads and upgrades. Still treat it like a hobby, just with some side income thrown in.

Side income can help pay your bills, offer more unique features, run contests, or even give you some extra spending money. There is no harm in trying to make extra money, especially these days.

Mine's are a passion for the community world. I've been doing community resource and services forums for over 2 decades. Each brought their own set of experiences. But I've definitely matured in providing more business-minded services.

Mine is a hobby as it's my passion. It is also my business.

I'm not worried about turning it into passive income as I have other streams to focus on that are earning.

My forum is not a hobby, it's not a business, it's a life goal/achievement I want to accomplish, whether it makes me money or not, I will make it happen anyways(and it's already happening) (of curse, if it makes me money I can achieve the goal even bigger and faster)

The goal is to help as many people as I can offering opportunities to progress in life. Using forums as a mean to let them "earn" it.
I charge $50/year subscription, it's not to make me money, but to screen out uninterested people.
This is how my users make money while keeping forums alive (not only my forum, but other forums who support the cause)

That's pretty much my view on it.

For now, I'll let my forums be ad free and not really in line with being monetized.

My social media, blogs, and freelancing gigs is where I make that money at.
