Do you try to get really good at one source of marketing or income, or multiple sources at the same time?

If you were to focus all your energy on one source of marketing or income, you could gain expert level in that source. However, if you focus on multiple sources of marketing or income, it would take longer and more effort to gain expertise level on each source.

This could be for a forum or a blog.

What do you do? What's your strategy?

Are you going all in on one source or do you need to have multiple sources?

I have tried multiple monetization methods. Adsense, Amazon, Media.Net, Infolinks, you name it. However, these days I am staying with just one method that is Adsense. I stopped using multiple ads because it started looking cluttered while not generating much income.
I don't like to use multiple ad networks on my blogs, either. AdSense does it for me.

I don't want to use ad networks on a forum at all. I think it looks cluttered from the get go.

I like multiple sources of income.
Giving more time to the most efficient ways/skills to generate the most revenue, then creating other sources/business
to diversify.

Ads on forums certainly look cluttered but I will continue to use one or two ad units, especially from Adsense until I get paying members.
You just have to strategically place them where you can still earn but it isn't driving your membership away.

Like the vignette ads that take over the screen. Once I see that, I don't come back. It's as bad as a popup.

Multiple sources for me because relying on one channel is like you are asking for heartbreak. There was a time google update hit one of my sites and everything tanked overnight. That was a very horrible experience.
