Should veteran members be given more influence on the forum or does that lead to elitism?

Veteran members are long-time members that have usually been a part of the forum since its initial creation or close to it. These members are usually the most active, contributing, and often, the most supportive of the forum and it existence.

Do you feel that these members deserve influence and some sort of authority on the forum over newbies and not-so-veteran members?

If yes - why do you feel this way?

If no - why not?

Do any of you have any experience in this sort of scenario where it had gone good or bad?

I haven’t run forums for too long to have veteran members, but in some forums where I have posted, veterans seem to have some kind of power over administration. But I didn't see anything toxic, though

I think it's good to have veterans and it's good to give them some say but you still need to keep everyone on the same level rather than put a veteran member over a newbie.

There's a bit of that bizarre kind of elitist attitude on the XF customer forums. Seems to have died down a little as of late, but some of the "veterans" there are some truly strange individuals.
