    I made my first forum several years ago. I made the mistake thinking it'd be easy to get new members. It requires a lot of dedication to acquire new members, and grow a forum. Especially if you're trying to grow at a rapid pace.

    That's an interesting approach. I'd consider it if I knew it wouldn't affect bots from search engines crawling my pages. I need my site to get indexed as fast as possible, for as many pages we got, so we can get maximum traffic from search engines.

    Scenario: You buy a big board...

    Community matters. Let the community decide the direction of the forum within reason, if it's a good idea. I like to create polls, and get feedback from my community before I make big changes, it's also make them feel like their decisions matter, and help mold the forum.

    I worked on some post exchanges, and I posted on admin forums like this one to build more backlinks. I also followed more accounts on Twitter, added friends related to my niche on Facebook, and posted links to social media.

    When do you call it quits?

    I usually go hard working/promoting my site for a few days before I need to recoup, and relax before I get back to work. I like to always maintain an active presence in my forum, so quitting is not the right word.

    I've never had any members on my forum pass away, but my forum has only been open for less than a year. I managed a Facebook group where I've had 2 members pass away, and they supported my goals/dreams to build my site.

    What made you choose the forum software you use for your forum? I went with Xenforo, because it seems to be the most popular choice, and it has core features that I wanted for my community.

    Inactive Forum Staff Members

    It's a requirement for all my staff members to maintain a active presence. I have rules in place to try, and prevent my staff from becoming inactive.
