1. Holiday-Themed Forum Design

Start with an aesthetic overhaul! Update your forum’s color scheme, banners, and icons to reflect the holiday season. Use festive colors like red and green for Christmas or orange and black for Halloween. This sets the mood and shows members that your forum is participating in the holiday spirit.

2. Custom Holiday Badges and Achievements

Create custom badges that members can earn during the holiday season. For example, award a "Holiday Spirit" badge to members who participate in holiday-related discussions or activities.

3. Holiday Avatar Frames

Offer holiday-themed avatar frames or icons that members can use. These could include Christmas hats, Halloween pumpkins, or winter snowflakes, allowing users to customize their profiles for the season.

4. Seasonal Competitions

Host holiday-themed competitions, such as a “Best Holiday Profile Picture” contest, holiday-themed writing challenges, or even a "Holiday Cooking Recipe" thread. Offer small rewards or badges for winners to encourage participation.

5. Holiday Storytelling Threads

Encourage members to share their favorite holiday memories, traditions, or stories. Create separate threads for each major holiday where members can share personal anecdotes or creative holiday-related fiction.

6. Holiday Polls and Surveys

Create fun, holiday-themed polls. Ask questions like, "What’s your favorite holiday movie?" or "Which is better: candy canes or chocolate coins?" Polls are easy to engage with and can help foster light-hearted discussion.

7. Secret Santa Exchange

Organize a virtual Secret Santa gift exchange. Members can exchange small virtual gifts, such as e-gift cards or custom avatars. You could also arrange a real-world exchange of small gifts like books or postcards for interested members.

8. Holiday-Themed Role-Playing

If your forum includes role-playing or creative storytelling elements, host a holiday-themed role-playing event. This could involve characters attending a Christmas ball, solving a spooky Halloween mystery, or preparing for a winter festival.

9. Holiday Q&A Sessions

Invite members to participate in special holiday-themed Q&A sessions with notable members of your forum community or experts in relevant areas, such as travel, cooking, or crafts related to the holiday season.

10. Holiday-Themed User Titles

Create fun holiday-themed user titles that members can achieve as they post during the season. Titles like "Winter Wizard," "Pumpkin King," or "Holiday Elf" can add a festive touch and encourage more interaction.

11. Holiday-Themed Games

Add forum-based games like "Holiday Trivia" or "Guess the Holiday Song Lyrics." These games can be simple but effective in getting members to engage regularly with the forum during the holiday period.

12. Themed Discussion Threads

Dedicate threads to discussing holiday-specific topics such as gift ideas, favorite holiday foods, or seasonal activities like ice skating or Halloween haunted houses. This keeps members talking and helps generate excitement for the season.

13. Festive Signatures

Encourage users to decorate their forum signatures with holiday-themed quotes, images, or greetings. You can even make it a contest by awarding badges or recognition to the most creative signatures.

14. Virtual Holiday Parties

Host a virtual holiday party on your forum. This could include live chat, giveaways, trivia games, or collaborative group activities, creating a sense of community even if everyone is miles apart.

15. Charity and Giving Back

Encourage members to give back during the holidays by organizing a charitable event or fundraiser. Members can donate to a chosen cause, and you can highlight contributors on a special "Holiday Heroes" leaderboard.

16. Holiday Countdown

Create a countdown to a specific holiday event, where each day you reveal something new and fun for the community. For example, a "12 Days of Christmas" thread could offer different surprises each day, such as exclusive content or mini contests.

17. Exclusive Holiday Content

Provide members with access to exclusive holiday-themed content. This could include downloadable wallpapers, special articles, how-to guides for holiday crafts or recipes, or behind-the-scenes content from your forum admins.

18. Holiday Themed Emojis

Upload custom emojis or reaction buttons that align with the holiday season. From Christmas trees to spooky ghosts, these festive emojis can add a playful touch to everyday conversations.

19. Community Holiday Playlist

Create a collaborative holiday music playlist that members can contribute to and share. Music has a way of connecting people, and a shared playlist can bring your community closer together during the festive season.

20. Holiday-Themed Giveaways

Host a series of holiday giveaways where members can win small prizes, discounts on forum-related services, or even real-world gifts. This not only increases activity but also gives members an extra reason to visit the forum frequently.

I was never much for changing a theme for the holidays. No reason except since my kids got old and married I lost the zeal for the holidays.
I guess that's a good reason for you.

However, if your members are into the holidays, you might reconsider for them. The holiday spirit can make someone more social and they might get into a mood to be a little more active on your forum.
