Not really anymore. Just the .com.
With the creation of so many extensions it's impossible to keep up.
Domain registrars insist with advertising that other extensions are good for x and y, because they are making money out of it.
But with the main extension, it's really all what you need.

I am into building brands, not just developing websites. So, I only focus on .com extensions.
To build any website you can just find the cheapest extension. But If you really mean business, just focus on the .com.

I once owned 30 domains, I kept renewing for a couple of years, but then started dropping then off. Few years later when I found that some were still available, I got them back.
Do you register domains to build your web projects or just to squat on them.
I tried domain squatting but it did not bring me profits.

In general, when I buy a domain is because I have a project or idea in mind for it.

There are times when some people try to play games, and when
I realize they are playing, then the game is ON. I like to play too I really like smarter players so I can become smarter. But it's hard to find those types these days. Some may not understand what I am saying, but some will.
