How much would you pay to buy them out right now?

Do you get along with your biggest forum competition?

What if you paid to buy them out and they went right ahead to create another big forum? What would you do then? Keep buying them and every other competition out?

Personally, I don't believe in buying out competition. It's a coward move in my opinion. If you believe in what you're doing and trust the project you're working on, you should welcome competition because it can only make you get better.

I mean if they want to sell and they want their content to go to good use - I don't see that as cowardly.

I acquired a forum that was going to close down if I didn't make an offer. The membership was happy that their posts were being put to good use.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in buying them out when they want to sell. It's a total different thing from what I had in mind. You're actually doing them a big favor buying their database at that point.

I'm talking about a situation where a forum owner will see a credible competition and want to buy them off just to cut them off. The supposed competition doesn't want to sell but they will start making offers to buy from them.

I was privy to the information when Alex of Bizdustry was trying to buy Forum Promotion even when Cam never wanted to sell.

Someone did made an offer recently to buy FP. I heard they offered five figures for it already.

I think I started my first real forum because of the competition being negative towards me when I tried to be a part of their forum.

I had started a few forums before then but they were merely for fun and play when I was a young teenager.

This is something that can fuel your passion to make sure you get back to such group. I've had a nasty experience too where I was racially abused and even told that English language isn't my mother language. Mehn, there are lots of crazy folks out in the world.

It would anger me to see someone be racist against you. You're one of the nicest people I've known in the forum world.

How much would you pay to buy them out right now?

I have an open offer of mid-5 figures for one forum, but the more I look into it, it seems to balance more on the weight of off-topic discussions, which is not where the revenue would be at.

I'd have to know revenue stats to offer something more reasonable, say monthly revenue * 36 as an opening offer. However, I'm inclined to believe that this would be low 5-figures (if not high 4) and not a number that they'd be willing to accept, even though that's the true value of what they own. The user acquisition could play a role in deciding the final number, but the most active users seem to post in off-topic and not related to the forum's niche, so they're not really as valuable as users that stick to niche dicussions.

I could do much more with 5-figures and use the majority of that on marketing to get people over and discuss those nicer keywords with a balance of 10% in off-topic and 90% on-topic.
