I have a few custom emojis that I’ve uploaded along with reactions. I have a haha”, “interesting” “mad” “star” “boring” “umbrella” along with a few others.
I haven’t uploaded any new ones in a while though.

I no longer use any custom ones. The main reason if you migrate software, they don't generally follow along.
Also, it's a lot easier to use the built in emoji, especially for those that use the Unicode Standard as they translate across most all devices.
I'm not up to date on most forum software, but it appears that at least some have some form of custom replacement. So if a user uses a drunken smile, say set as , it's stored as such in the databases as that and not the image. So, it would be relatively easy, after an import, to replace  with the new forum's way of displaying custom smiles, be it a link to the image in HTML or a different replacement text.
Sure, it's an extra step, but it's not that difficult to carry over.
