Custom forum icons

How do you feel about custom forum icons?

These are custom icons that you add to individual categories, boards, and sub-boards.

In most cases, you can add themed icons to what the section is about. For example, a "Basketball" icon could be added to the Sports board of a general forum.

Is this something you practice? Do you feel the use of custom board icons adds to the experience of using the forum?

I love to see custom forum icons when it comes to forums, but I also understand that in some niches, especially in a professional niche, custom icons may not always be ideal.

I own a general chat forum, and I love to use custom icons for the node icons. I feel it adds to the fun of the forum

I agree with general forums. It does make those forums more entertaining and fun! But not every niche needs them.

I use a niche related forum icon, but all the nodes use the same icon.
For my NodeBB sites I do use customized icons for various discussion areas. Same with my Discourse site. Those are basically using icons provided via FontAwesome.

Custom icons adds a distinctive/unique look to the forum. I believe it's a plus.
