I've seen it countless times. Maybe you have to.

Problem members who want to leave the forum but demand you delete all their posts.

How do you respond? Do you delete all their posts, or do you do something different?

I don't delete any posts. I only delete their account, which is sufficient.

That's what I would do. I might even change their username, as well.
