Do you ever try to drive traffic to specific threads on your forum?

We all try to promote our forums the best we can. We share the root URL on our domain names. Mine is Another Admin Forum right?

But what about specific and individual threads or topics on the forum? Do you ever try to promote those? I'm sure you have promotion-worthy content and discussions on your forum. I'm sure many of them could use more eyes on them. But typically, we don't usually promote individual threads.

But that might be a mistake...

Promoting the root forum just gives people a website to click to. They'll have to do the work looking for and search in order to see the great content listed. If you're promoting specific posts, then you're putting the content right in front of them and taking away all the work they have to do.

Should we be focusing on topic/thread promotion more so than anything else?

I remember doing this on Reddit with my old forum. Typically if there was a post looking for information on a topic that I know a thread on my forum would very well answer, then I would comment with it. This worked out well.

Of course, you don't want to spam this. If you just made an account for this purpose and all your comments/posts are just links to your forum that will have negative results.

Like with social media, I'd have to do a 90/10 strategy on Reddit. 90% native content that is extremely helpful and 10% promotional content.
