How often do you email your forum members?

What do you email them? Do you email everything or do you reserve emailing for important stuff like events and policy changes?

Do you think we forum owners should try our best NOT to mass email?

Do any of you have any problems with email? Such as quota limits?

I email users anytime I have something I consider important. A piece of news or an update. But It's not on a fixed schedule.

My userbase is quite small, so I don't have the quota limit problem. But I can send up to 1000 emails per hour. (I use a lot of internal emails for alerts and stuff though)

My hosting service hits a quota.

I notice that bigger forums have to use AWS or something similar for their email server.

I wish XenForo had setting to choose how many emails are sent per hour.

From the forums I’ve been in, most owners don’t email too often unless it’s something important. Things like policy changes, big updates or events usually deserve an email, but constant mass emailing can get annoying. And not everybody used to check their email unless it's something urgent.

I haven't used too much of Email Marketing for my forum, since I disabled email options for most forums I join I tend to think my users also do the same.
