Have you ever experienced a forum war?

This is where another forum (typically a competing forum) will basically openly defame and talk bad about your forum.

You might return the favor or do something else.

What would you do?

Been an active participant in a few. Back in the day there were 2 visual basic programming forums that Microsoft endorsed. Mine and Jon the creator of vbulletin. Mine was more professional and was know for the place to go for solid help. Johns was more laid back. They had an off topic forum. we didn't.

Every once in a while a group of his users would come over by us and post off topic threads all over the forum. My staff was always fast to clean things up. Staff and I decided that we would send a group over there to do the same thing. We organized the retaliation and off we went. This went back and forth for a few days. In the end everyone got a good laugh.

I'd been part of other when I had What Pisses You Off? Those got a little raunchy. Especially when we went against WTF.com.

Board wars can be fun. on BASH.zone there is a forum for Board War.

Such a great domain name. I would revive it as a forum, but the name is easily 6-figures, out of budget for now.

They were able to monetize it with @wtf.com Gmail addresses (that they were probably grandfathered in with unlimited when they were first released, but then it became paid $5-6 in 2021 or so, which chopped off that monetization ability unless they were able to charge more).

WTF.com would be an awesome forum for ROFLMAO but I still like that domain name, too. I feel like the forum you have right now could be another SomethingAwful with that brand name if you go all in.
